Mikeu Secondary School is located along Lanet- Dundori road about 22 kms from Nakuru town. It is situated within Dundori centre adjacent to Dundori Ol-kalou junction. The school is in Dundori location in Nakuru North District in Nakuru County. The school neighbours Nyandarua County and Dundori forest, a high altitude area with red volcanic soil and abundant rainfall.
SOCIAL ECONOMIC STATUS
The school serves dominant forests squatter that relies on substance farming and highly depend on forest ‘Shamba’ system. The post election violence of 2007/2008 has seen an upsurge of squatters in the area.
HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL
The school opened its doors to the public on 7th /1/2011 by admitting its first 40 learners. This was a great motivation since the first class was housed in Mikeu primary school hall. (Resource centre) despite this, the urge for education did not bar the learners from wanting to access this very basic necessity called education. The school management at that time was on Mikeu primary school management committee, which was headed by the chairman Antony Ndungu while the Headteacher Mr. Gatuma was the secretary to this committee. They spearheaded and facilitated the kick-off of Mikeu secondary school. The school management committee in consultation with the parents hived a 5 acre piece of land from Mikeu primary school where the secondary school was to be set up.
The Dundori community had a great urge for the growth of this secondary school. The local leaders approached the Subukia CDF, which funded the construction of the first two classes in 2011/2012 financial year. The funds completed the construction of two classrooms and a mini office in January 2012. The school moved to its compound the same month. Like the mustard seed, Mikeu begun humbly with 40 learners but the future is very bright for this great school. It’s our prayers that through this strategic plan the school will grow to be the best high school of choice for many in the region and nationally.
The school was registered in 2011 and by the end of the second term it received its first and current principal Madam Stella Mbugua. Third term 2011 a deputy principal Mr. Peter Gitonga was posted, and in second term 2012 Mr David Gathui was posted by the TSC. The school has constructed two classrooms, a mini office and staff toilets. In 2012 our students participated at the district level in cross-country and athletics.
